Depends on #1381. This branch is stacked on it and reuses its recordings code. Until #1381 merges, this PR's diff includes those two commits too; the new work is the last commit, 64e8ad58.

Summary

A Manage recordings row in the OpenScreen menu, under Open project, opens a dialog listing every take in the recordings folders, newest first.

  • Each row: a checkbox, the date, the size, and either Used by … with the project titles or Not used by any project. A Show in folder button reveals the take's video.
  • Selecting: pick takes one by one, Select all / Clear selection, or Select unused. The footer shows the selected count and size, or the total when nothing is selected.
  • Deleting: Delete asks Move the selected recordings (size) to the Trash? (Recycle Bin on Windows). Each take goes with all its files: the video, .cursor.json, .session.json and -webcam files. If the Trash refuses, the prompt offers Delete permanently for what is left. Removed files are dropped from media-links.registry.json; files that weren't removed keep their links.
  • Takes still in use: they can be deleted, but the prompt first names the projects that will lose that media.
  • Unreadable project files: if a project file doesn't parse, a banner says a recording marked unused may still be in use, and the prompt repeats it.
  • Safety in the main process: recordings.delete only accepts ids that name a take, <recordings folder>/recording-<digits>. Anything else is refused before a file is touched, including file names, other folders and ...

Code:

  • electron/ai-edition/project-recordings.ts: new listRecordings and resolveRecordingIds, built on feat(recording): delete a project's recordings along with the project #1381's take grouping.
  • AiEditionService: new listRecordings and deleteRecordings.
  • Bridge actions recordings.list and recordings.delete.
  • New ManageRecordingsModal.tsx.
  • Strings in all 15 locales, a Managing recordings section on the media-library page in all 8 site languages, and manual checklist items.

Related issue

Closes #1376. With #1381 this covers the request: view recordings in the app, delete several at once, and get a warning when deleting ones that projects use.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added a recordings manager to browse recordings by date, size, and project usage; select recordings, reveal their files, and move them to the Trash or Recycle Bin.
    • Project deletion keeps recordings by default. You can choose to move eligible recordings to the Trash or Recycle Bin; recordings used by other projects are retained.
    • Deleting recordings also removes associated cursor and camera files. Warnings identify projects that use selected recordings.
    • If moving recordings to the Trash or Recycle Bin fails, you can confirm permanent deletion.
  • Documentation
    • Added guidance on project deletion and recording management.

Walkthrough

This change adds native recording discovery, listing, and deletion, plus editor dialogs for recording management and project deletion choices. It adds project-usage warnings, Trash-failure handling, media-link cleanup, localization, tests, and documentation.

Changes: Recording management

Layer / File(s) Summary
Recording discovery and ownership
electron/ai-edition/document-service.ts, electron/ai-edition/project-recordings.ts, electron/ai-edition/project-recordings.test.ts
Project scans now report unreadable paths. New helpers group recording files into takes, calculate sizes and timestamps, identify project references, list takes, and resolve recording IDs.
Native contracts and recording operations
src/native/contracts.ts, src/native/client.ts, src/native/browserShim.ts, electron/native-bridge/services/aiEditionService.ts, electron/ipc/*, electron/media/mediaLinksRegistry.ts, electron/native-bridge/services/aiEditionService.deleteRecordings.test.ts, electron/media/mediaLinksRegistry.test.ts
Native requests now support recording summaries, listing, and deletion. The service handles project and recording disposal, and removes media-link entries for files that are gone.
Project deletion with recording choices
src/components/ai-edition/Modals.tsx, src/components/ai-edition/NewEditorShell.tsx, src/components/ai-edition/OpenProjectModal.test.tsx, src/i18n/locales/*/editor.json
Project deletion keeps recordings by default and can dispose of eligible recordings. The dialog reports recordings retained for other projects or unreadable project files, and offers permanent deletion after a Trash failure.
Recordings manager and editor integration
src/components/ai-edition/ManageRecordingsModal.tsx, src/components/ai-edition/ManageRecordingsModal.test.tsx, src/components/ai-edition/NewEditorShell.tsx, src/components/ai-edition/v4/EditorTopBar.tsx, src/components/ai-edition/v4/*test.tsx, src/i18n/locales/*/editor.json, technical-documentation/testing/manual-e2e-checklist.md, website/docs/media-library.md, website/i18n/*/docusaurus-plugin-content-docs/current/media-library.md
The editor adds a recordings dialog with selection, project usage, sizes, and file reveal. It supports Trash deletion and a permanent-deletion retry after Trash failure. Tests and localized documentation cover these flows.

Explanation

The description includes all required template sections, explains the feature and issue scope, identifies the change type and release impact, and lists comprehensive automated testing. It also clearly notes that manual checks and running-app verification remain incomplete.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

The implementation satisfies the coding requirements in [#1376]. ManageRecordingsModal lists takes, supports individual and bulk selection, and deletes selected recordings. The service groups companion files, supports Trash and permanent deletion, and cleans registry links only for removed files. The UI and tests cover warnings for recordings used by projects. The main process validates recording IDs before file operations. The current head also adds bridge tests for valid and invalid disposal values.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The changes stay within the scope of [#1376]. Project-deletion recording handling, usage checks, unreadable-project reporting, registry cleanup, translations, documentation, bridge contracts, and tests support viewing, safe deletion, and warnings for recordings. No demonstrated unrelated product behavior appears in the supplied whole-PR summary or the change since the previous review.

Thanks @marcgabe15, the id check in the main process (only recording-<digits> inside the recordings folders) is exactly the guard a bulk delete needs.

This one lands after #1381. Before review, could you add:

  • a short screen recording of the dialog: Select unused, one in-use take with its warning, and the delete;
  • the results of the new manual checks in manual-e2e-checklist.md, with the OS you ran them on.

CI and CodeRabbit are still running; please address any CodeRabbit threads once they land.

Hi @marcgabe15, a quick nudge on this one: the open CodeRabbit threads are what's left before the next review. No rush, just making sure it didn't fall through the cracks.

…oes not parse

A project that fails to parse is left out of the list the delete checks for
other users of a recording, so a take it shares could be trashed with the
project being deleted. While any project file is unreadable, the dialog
offers no Trash and says why, and the delete itself refuses to remove
recordings.
Any value but "trash" took the permanent-delete path, so a malformed one
removed recordings for good. Also fixes a grammar slip in the media-library
docs.
…d never strand a project

trashFailed was set for any error in the disposal block, so a failed
project scan offered "Delete them permanently?". It is now set only when
removing the recordings throws.

The project file is moved aside before any recording is removed: a project
that cannot be deleted fails before anything irreversible, and it is put
back if the Trash refuses.
Manage recordings, in the OpenScreen menu, lists each take in the
recordings folders with its size and the projects that use it. Takes can
be selected one by one, all at once or only the unused ones, then moved
to the Trash with their cursor, session and camera files; if the Trash
refuses, a permanent delete is offered. Deleting a take a project still
uses names that project first, and a project file that does not parse
puts up a warning that usage may be incomplete.

The main process only deletes ids that name a take in a recordings
folder.

Guard document.delete against a missing payload.

A raw IPC call with domain: "aiEdition", action: "document.delete", and no payload reaches the document.delete case. The recordings read throws a TypeError, and the generic catch returns INTERNAL_ERROR instead of INVALID_REQUEST. The unguarded request.payload.projectId read at the base commit already has this behavior, so this is a pre-existing issue, not one this change introduces.
